What is a Skype Number?
Having a Skype telephone number means your friends and family can call you when you are abroad from a mobile, without all the expensive international calling rates. They call a mobile number which is routed to your computer (through Skype). You just have to select which country you want your Skype number set in (i.e where most of your friends will be calling from).
How Do I Get a Skype Phone Number?
If you haven’t already done so, go to Skype, register and choose your Skype Name. You will use your Skype username every time you log in to Skype and people search for friends and family using Skype names (Skype usernames), so you want it to be memorable. It is basically your Skype ID.
As with all add on features in Skype, it is really easy to set up your own Skype number.
- Sign in to Skype
- Select File>My Account
- Go to the ‘Manage Features’ section
- Click on ‘Skype Number’
Skype Number Cost
When setting up your Skype number you will be able to choose how long you want it for (i.e 3 months, 12 months), and if you get a subscription you’ll get a discount on that cost.
It costs as little as £2.92 per month (£3.35 including VAT)
You can get hold of a Skype Handset, which means you don’t need to be connected to a computer to take your calls!
The other option is to buy a Skype headset, which will enable easier communication while at your computer.
Once you have your Skype phone or headset, you can have anyone in your Skype Directory call you (either on your phone or via your computer) by searching for your username, location or email address.
